The Rathdowne Place Aged Care Facility feels more like resort living than a nursing home or retirement village.

$180 million was invested into the state of the art Aged Care Facility in Carlton, Victoria.

Not only is Rathdowne Place now the largest Aged Care and Retirement Facility in Australia, its 5 storey complex boasts:

  • a seniors only gymnasium
  • a hydrotherapy pool
  • great city views
  • a cinema
  • rooftop garden and BBQ area
  • licenced cafe and restaurant
  • convenience store
  • health and wellness centre
  • hairdressing and beauty therapy
  • 162 beds
  • elegant suites with private ensuites
  • individual access to WiFi and smart TVs
  • motion-sensor nurse call system in each room
  • provision for a range of residential care needs – high and low care, complex care and frailty, wheelchair dependence and dementia impairments
  • a high staff to resident ratio
  • highly trained multi lingual staff who have…
  • adopted Australian Unity’s Better Together® Philosophy

The Better Together Philosophy® is centred around 3 values:

1. Connection – Australian Unity believes in the importance of connecting with other people. At Rathdowne Place they encourage one-on-one time between residents and staff, engagement with families and the wider Carlton community.

2. Respect – Resident’s right to privacy, their right to express themselves, and their right to decide how to live each day is held in the highest regard at Rathdowne Place.

3. Making it possible – Rathdowne Place carers and staff do their best to fulfil any request by residents.

“Simply put, Better Together means that residents of Rathdowne Place are able to live life their way.”

“We didn’t want to make it institutional, offering people the opportunity to participate in daily activities as if they were still at home,” explained Derek McMillan, CEO of Australian Unity.

Rathdowne Place Aged Care Facility is working to ease the transition out of home, allow residents the opportunity to maintain their independence, and live life the way they want. Indeed, with this new facility it’s more than likely they will revolutionise the way the world views aged care.
